About Leenane
Leenane is situated on the southern shore of Killary Harbor, which is Ireland's only fjord. There are spectacular views of the bay, and of the Galway and Mayo Mountains. This area has a worldwide reputation as an area of outstanding natural beauty, and it truely is breathtaking. A few very famous movies have been shot right on our doorstep, including "The Field" and "Tristan and Isolde".
The area is also steeped in history, and was one of the areas most affected by the Famine in the 1840's. Everywhere you look there is evidence of this terrible period in Irish history, from ruined buliding to famine relief roads.
Nowdays, thankfully, this is a much more pleasant place....one that you can never really appreciate until you visit!
